SOUTH DAKOTA: Sanford Health’s $350 Million Expansion In Telemedicine is Needed

Numerous experts within and outside South Dakota say the timing of the Virtual Care Initiative and Virtual Care Center now under construction is fortunate for Sioux Falls-based Sanford. The pandemic led to a significant increase in consumer willingness to use telemedicine, spurred medical providers to expand telemedicine offerings, and led to regulatory reforms that made insurers far more willing to cover telemedicine. Mandy Bell, vice president of product innovation at Avel eCare, says of the new Center: “I think they’ve got the right type of network that will really benefit from the smart virtual care strategies they’re putting in place," Bell said. "I think it’s a good thing for everybody and all of South Dakota.” Read more about the Center here.
