Telehealth News Flash, Nov. 23

Telehealth news and events we have been talking about around our office this week:

BBC Market Research Forecasting for Telehealth

“According to the [BBC Global Markets for Telemedicine] report, [the global telehome and telemedicine] market was valued at almost $13.8 billion in 2012 and is expected to reach to $16.1 billion in 2013. BCC Research projects the market to grow to $35.1 billion by 2018, and register a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.9% from 2013 to 2018.”

That quote is just a snip-it.  The complete BBC report is full of information on the telehome and telemedicine markets, including data, key players, trends, analysis and projections. The consensus in the gpTRAC office?  Good time to invest.

Apple’s CEO sees this part of telehealth exploding- and so should you

A great infographic by Pathfinder Software shows the many ways technology sensors gather health metrics today.  Heart-rate, EKG, sleep, fitness, hydration, medication adherence- just a few vital health statistics these tiny devices can measure when strapped to the human body.  The author of this handsontelehealth article sums it up nicely:  “As a telehealth advocate you should embrace sensors because they (1) enhance traditional telehealth solutions and (2) enable new telehealth solutions.”  We agree.
